"Triangle"

Afraid I haven't too much to say about this Tsui Hark-Ringo Lam-Johnny To cinematic relay race, in which the three pals handed over directing and story chores after completing about 30 minutes worth of movie, in the order of the Hong Kong maestros listed above. There's some fun intrigue—I particularly enjoyed how the would-be black-widow wife (played by Kelly Lin) of one of the three protagonists morphs into a near-heroine—and a couple of nifty set pieces, including a cock-up of a heist/chase that's one anti-climax after another. The traffic rotary argument was good, too, and some friends were taken with its "Treasure of the Sierra Madre with cell phones" tone in parts. But the overall effect was that of too much and not enough simultaneously. Also, I was disappointed that the weird Eaten Alive note introduced in the last third didn't have a stronger payoff.
