It would be nice if I could think of one American actress under the age of 30 that has the same type of character that Sagnier does, but I can't think of one. That's not what we want, is it? French girls just seem more...adult. I don't know if it's an act (I'm sure it is), but the first American actress to adopt a French sensibility will probably be the last. I guess Gwyneth has a little bit of that worldly European gravitas, but not much. Winona Ryder should've been the first but she is by nature a professional groupie, so I don't think she'll ever really grow up and play a woman. Rock stars don't like women. They like little girls. Or at least American and British rock stars don't like women. Some French rock star is married to Sofia Coppola, but Sofia's not an actress and I don't know if you could call any French guy a rock star in the true sense of the word. The only young French actress that I know of who's more appealing than Ludivine is the girl who played Charlotte Gainsborough's friend in The Science of Sleep. And for some reason, the thought of Gainsborough reminds me of Katrin Cartridge, who I fell in love with while watching Claire Dolan. Lodge Kerrigan is one of the best filmmakers in the world right now. I could watch Clean, Shaven, Claire Dolan and Keane over and over. Claire Dolan is especially wonderful. I'd like to get to know Lodge Kerrigan. I bet he's a really nice guy.

Chris, I agree that American actresses who fit this description are a little thin on the ground, but I think Zooey Deschanel is one.
