« Oscar nominations. | Main | Heath Ledger »

January 22, 2008

Spilling my guts in Park City.

Sounds kind of Cassavetes-ish, but alas, what's I've got going on has more in common with La Grande Bouffe. I have picked up a thoroughly uncomfortable case of food poisoning that is keeping me from a Sundance screening of Choke this morning, and is sufficiently debillitating that composing the Oscar noms blog post below was quite a bit more enervating than it ought to have been. What brought on the bug? I'm not gonna tell here, as I don't wanna get sued. If any of my fellow attendees want a head's up as to what they should avoid and where, drop me an e-mail. But you really oughtn't post it if I tell you.

I need to get some more fluids in me before I determine if I'll be able to make the screening of the Derek Jarman tribute doc early this afternoon. This is pretty annoying—I only got one film in yesterday, Ballast, which I though was at least half-great, and was hoping to make today, my final day here, an all-movie one. That might not work out. I'll keep you, um, posted.

Dude, I flew home last night and barfed in the freeking bathroom ON the plane. I'm 6"4 and over 250 pounds....puking in an airplane bathroom is not fun for plus sized models like me. I feel awful today too.

I had a "toasty" lunch at a chain sandwich place....pop QUIZ hotshot...did you eat there as well? No's?

Jeez, Glenn... you too? I was laid up with food poisoning the last two days myself. And practically everyone I know has been sick lately, one way or another.

Something's in the air... or in the quiz, no's?

Wow, guys, I'm sorry you got struck too—this kinda misery doesn't wish for company because it's so, you know, miserable. But I should point out that no, even though I disclosed eating at a Quiznos a few days back, that's NOT where I got the nasty bug. It was in fact a far fancier and soignee joint whose name melds descriptive nouns from the titles of a 1969 film by Yasuzo Masumura and the debut effort of Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali. I'll send you guys the details. And I'm sorry I wasn't able to get some face time with you both up here on the mountain. Now, to get back to my bananas and Canada Dry and chicken noodle soup, which is actually doing some good, although once I run out I may have to do like those "Stranded" guys...Get well soon!

I should add that I ate some truly gross fish and chips at the SLC airport so blaming the Q may not be totally fair.

Sorry I missed you too, man. Try to come to SXSW, that's a more fun festival anyway. Sundance is next to impossible to meet anyone unless you just bump into the by happenstance.

And I should clarify that I fell ill in my good ol' Brooklyn domicile, thanks to a two-day old deli sandwich.

When you advised in a recent post to not come Sundance way (the weather, no?) I took your wisdom to heart.

That and, well, no cash to do so. :-)

I smell cinematic terrorism. Your post is about the 4th or 5th dispatch I've read from someone at Sundance laid up with sickness.

Remind me never to go there. I can be freezing and sick in my hometown, and freezing and sick out of town is about the worst feeling ever.

You're not kidding, Joe. I've never been so sick away from home before (knock wood), and it's just as desolate a feeling as you can imagine.
